our history
[the how, what, when and why of the Diablo Region by John Clever]

Diablo Region got its start at a meeting in late 1983, when some members wanted to start a region to serve the greater East Bay area.
At that time, we were part of Golden Gate Region, and most of their activities were centered in the South Bay area, near San Jose. For many years, a group of members had been meeting on Saturday mornings for breakfast in the Walnut Creek area, and these people were instrumental in getting the region started. Before the next Saturday breakfast, petitions were prepared to collect signatures to form a new region. An election was held in January 1984, and Diablo Region was allowed to split off from Golden Gate Region and form a new region. Our charter was granted February 18, 1984 and our charter dinner was held May 5, 1984.
Early on, some of our board meetings were held in Danville. One evening, after the meeting we went to an adjacent pizza parlor for some beverages. Someone suggested we do this for the whole region; thus started our monthly Porsches and Pizza, which still continues 15 years later, in addition to the Saturday morning breakfast. Our largest event each year, the Wash 'N Shine Concours started in 1986. Every year, this event is held on Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, and now draws about 70 Porsches of all types. Our other events are parties and tours; pool parties, barbecues, seasonal parties - all kinds of parties and tours to any place you might enjoy driving your Porsche. You name it, we have either been there or we will let you take us there.
Come and join us and become a part of Diablo Region.
